Wildbad Kreuth Educational Centre

Wildbad Kreuth Educational Centre Nestled in the idyllic landscape between Lake Tegernsee and the Achen Pass, the former spa looks back on 500 years of history.

For three hundred years, the "Sankt Leonard" spa was the property of the Abbots of Tegernsee until the secularization; in 1803 it was sold to a farmer from Kreuth. 15 years later, King Max Joseph I of Bavaria purchased the entire complex and extended it to its present size.

The current owner from the Wittelsbach family, Duke Max in Bavaria, closed the sanatorium and the pump house in 1973 and leased the building to the Hanns Seidel Foundation. On 25 September 1975, Wildbad Kreuth opened as an educational center.

The building has 155 beds; and six conference rooms make it possible to run seminars from small groups of 14 participants to large-scale lectures for 150. In addition, there is a festival hall available for major events which can hold 400 guests.

The most up-to-date conference technology, including a radio and public speaking studio, enable the Wildbad Kreuth Educational Centre to offer a wide variety of events.

In 2008, there were 462 events for some 16,439 participants.

Banz Monastery Educational Centre

Banz Monastery Educational Centre

Banz Monastery (Kloster Banz), with its 900 years of history, is located in the valley of the River Main in Upper Franconia.

In about 1069 or 1071, Countess Alberada and her husband, Margrave Hermann of Vohburg, donated their castle on Mount Banz to the Benedictines as a monastery.

In the Thirty Years' War, the abbey was destroyed; between 1698 and 1780, it was rebuilt and extended to become one of the biggest monasteries in Bavaria.

When the abbey closed as a result of the secularization, the monastery's last glorious era came to an end. In 1814 Duke Wilhelm in Bavaria acquired Banz as his summer residence.

Before being taken over by the Hanns Seidel Foundation in 1978, the monastery was in the possession on the missionary order of the "Society of the Holy Angels." After extensive renovation and restoration, the completion of the Banz Monastery was celebrated in 1990.

There are now 180 beds available for participants attending events; for conference work, there are 12 seminar rooms for groups of 15 to 300 persons. In connection with HSF's support for junior journalists, a radio and television studio have also been set up.

In 2008, there were 688 events for some 29,346 participants.

In the Banz Monastery, there are two remarkable collections open to the public: the collection of fossils and the oriental collection. Together they attract more than 30,000 visitors a year.
