Training of Trainers on Human Rights for Police Officers

Last April 19-25, 2010, the “Training of Trainers on Human Rights” for police officers was conducted at Eurotel, Quezon City as part of the project cooperation for this year between the Philippine National Police (PNP) through its Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF).  There were a total of 31 participants coming from the PNP national and regional training institutes and concerned offices, HRAO, Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) and National Police College (NPC) as well as two officers from the Human Rights Office (HRO) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Read more..

PNP and HSF ink Memorandum of Understanding

In pursuit of both institutions’ commitment to advance the cause of human rights in the country, the Philippine National Police Chief, Police Director General Jesus A. Verzosa and Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany Resident Representative signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 19, 2010 at a ceremony held at the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.  The MOU covers the project activities for the year 2010, in support of the continuing partnership between PNP and HSF which started in 2008. HSF commemorates 30 years in the Philippines

In commemoration of the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) 30 years of development cooperation with the Philippines, various development partners and long-time friends were gathered in a forum organised by the Foundation on “Philippine-German Development Cooperation: Hanns Seidel Foundation’s 30 Years of Cooperation with the Philippines” last April 15, 2010.

 

The Foundation showed during the forum a photo-documentation of its programs and projects in the country over the years in support of its motto “in the Service of Democracy, Peace, and Development.”

Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines Chairperson Confers with European Institutions on Human Rights Issues in the Philippines

Upon the invitation of the European Parliament and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Chairperson Leila M. de Lima of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP) visited Brussels recently to meet with high-ranking representatives of the European Union and other international organizations, as well as representatives of the academe, to discuss the political and human rights situation in the Philippines, regional cooperation perspectives, as well as relations with the European Union. Ambassador Delia Domingo-Albert visits Hanns Seidel Foundation in Munich

The Philippine Ambassador to Berlin, Germany, Her Excellency Ambassador Delia Domingo-Albert, visited the Head Office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation/ Germany (HSF) in Munich last April 20, 2010 to rekindle old ties and express her support for the Foundation’s advocacy for human rights and promotion of microfinance through its ongoing capacity-building programs. Faculty Development Training for Microfinance

The PinoyME Foundation, Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) of Germany successfully conducted a Faculty Development Training for Microfinance last April 19-25, 2010 in Sto. Domingo, Albay.  The training is the first of a series of activities toward preparing the academic faculty and industry trainers in delivering the ladderized, competency-based education program for the microfinance sector to be implemented using the Dual Training System (DTS).  There were 20 participants from four (4) partner schools and five (5) microfinance institutions. Philippine Microenterprise Stakeholders’ Conference

The Philippine Microenterprise Stakeholders Conference held last April 15, 2010 brought together a broad constituency from the microenterprise development sector consisting of 117 representatives from the academe, donors and funding agencies, development organizations, corporate foundations, microfinance institutions, social enterprises, commercial banks, and government institutions. The discussion was focused on a research paper which summarized the results of 300 studies on the current state of microfinance in the Philippines, its future directions and policy implications of scaling it up. Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany funded the conduct of the policy research and the conference. Read more..

PNP Human Rights Training in ARMM

Through its own initiative, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) conducted a series of lectures/briefing on human rights last March 11-12, 2010 at the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Headquarters in Parang, Maguindanao.  This was given due importance in light of the Maguindanao massacre a few months ago. Third Round Table Discussion on Research and Policy Agenda for Microenterprise Development

In preparation for the upcoming Philippine Microenterprise Stakeholders Conference on April 15, 2010, PinoyME Foundation, together with Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany, hosted their third roundtable discussion (RTD) last March 11, 2010 on the microfinance research and policy agenda. The gathering further discussed the revised version of the policy brief for microfinance and microenterprise to upscale microenterprise development as a poverty reduction strategy as well as the concept of the said conference. EITSCFI Trains Teachers on OrangeHRM

The European IT Service Center Foundation, Incorporated (EITSCFI), with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF), trained ten (10) participants from the partner academic institutions of the EITSCFI on Powerful and Dynamic Human Resource Systems Using OrangeHRM last 03 to 05 March 2010.

 

OrangeHRM is a comprehensive open source human resource management (HRM) system that covers Administration, Personnel Information Management, Employee Self Service, Leave, Time & Attendance, Benefits, and Recruitment.  Read more..

 

Former Scholars of Hanns Seidel Foundation Mentor Dualtech Center Trainees

Members of the Association of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Scholars of the Philippines (AHSFSPI), spearheaded by its President, Mr. Honorio M. Grupo, Jr., and its Treasurer, Mr. Rene Roberto G. Garcia, joined the Mentoring Sessions under the Dualtech Center’s Advanced Stage Training Program (ASTP) as mentors to the Center’s trainees last 16th October 2009 and 12th February 2010.

 

This participation in the Dualtech Center’s ASTP was identified as one of the AHSFSPI’s projects for 2009.  The overarching goal of the project is to assist the Dualtech Center in its Program through the involvement of the members of the Association in the Mentoring Sessions. Read more..

 

Round Table Discussion on Research and Policy Agenda for Microenterprise Development

PinoyME Foundation, together with Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany, hosted their second roundtable discussion (RTD) last February 11, 2010 on the microfinance research and policy agenda in Q Bistro, Malayan Plaza, Opal corner Topaz Road, Ortigas Center.  The gathering discussed the results of the survey of 300 microfinance studies and literature review as well as the proposed policy brief for microfinance and microenterprise to upscale microenterprise development as a poverty reduction strategy.  The output of this discussion is a policy paper for microfinance which will be presented during the Microenterprise Stakeholders Conference on April 15, 2010. Paralegal Training: Skills Enhancement for Police Officers

Eighty (80) police officers completed the Paralegal Training:  Skills Enhancement for Police Officers held last February 10-12 & 19, 23-24, 2010 (2 batches) at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Headquarters, Camp Crame, Quezon City, bringing the total number of participants to this human rights-based investigation course at 200.  The selected police personnel composed of Human Rights Desk Officers, Investigators, and First Responders came from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and National Support Units (NSUs).  The conduct of this training program is a joint undertaking of the PNP through its Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) under its existing project cooperation. Competency Standards Workshop for Microfinance

Paralegal Training: Skills Enhancement for Investigators and First Responders

The Philippine National Police (PNP) through its Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany replicated the conduct of the “Paralegal Training: Skills Enhancement for Investigators and First Responders” for two more batches this year. Eighty (80) police officers from the different police stations and anti-drug units of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) as well as investigators and operatives from selected National Operational Support Units (NOSUs) were present during the Opening Ceremony held on 10 February 2010 at the PNP Museum in Camp Crame.  Special guests were Police Director Magtanggol B. Gatdula, Director for Information and Communication Technology Management as Guest Speaker, Police Chief Superintendent Charles Calima, Director of Training Service, and Police Superintendent Joselito Nicodemus of the School for Investigation and Detective Management under the Training Service Unit.
