HSF supported the UNEP Finance Initiatives conference in Manila (April 2001)

The ASEAN-EU program is a forum for discussion of relevant issues related to economic and political cooperation and integration, environmental management, as well as trade and investment within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and between ASEAN and the European Union (EU).


The Hanns Seidel Foundation sponsored a ground-breaking regional conference in Yangon, Myanmar last 05-06 February 2002 entitled Social Development and Poverty Reduction through Vocational Training and Technical Education in the ASEAN Region, a joint project of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Myanmar-ISIS) and the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation, Inc. (RPDEV).


HSF supported the UNEP Finance Initiatives conference in Manila (April 2001) and, with the financial assistance of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology, also supported a major UNEP conference on finance and the environment held in Manila last 05-06 April 2001 entitled "The Finance Sector in Asia-Pacific: The Business Case for Sustainability Performance." The conference was attended by about 170 high-level managers of financial institutions from all over the Asia-Pacific region.


Other activities that were sponsored by the Hanns Seidel Foundation include:

  • Beyond AFTA and Towards an ASEAN Common Market
  • The First International Conference of Asian Political Parties
  • Beyond AFTA: Facing the Challenge of Closer Economic Integration
  • Roundtable discussions on Information Technology Opportunities Between the Philippines and Europe
  • Into the Next Millenium, a conference on RP-EU relations attended by high-level representatives from the international community, government, academe, private business sector and non-governmental organizations.
These conferences were undertaken in cooperation with the Center for Research and Communication Foundation, Inc. (CRCFI).
