Former scholars of Hanns Seidel Foundation Philippines visited Germany from 10-19 December 2003 to take part in a conference with fellow HSF scholars from around the world.

On 9 December 2003, The European IT Service Center (EITSC) repeated the successful CEO Forum they organized in Manila on 19 November, this time in Cebu. The seminar, organized in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, was sponsored by the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology.

Clean Air Now!

of the Clean Air Now! Youth Forum.

This three-day event held from 21 to 23 November 2003 aimed to promote the Philippines as the Seat of Clean Air Initiatives in Asia. Organized by Swisscontact and supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the event had the following objectives: to encourage the youth and common people to get involved in the clean air campaign, to present the various clean air initiatives in the Philippines, to provide venues for finding solutions as well as building multi-sectoral cooperation and partnerships geared towards clean air, and to promote clean air (specifically vehicle-reduction) technologies and practices in the country. The event was sponsored in part by the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology.


Second Century Coops Conference

Representatives of participating coops with their plaques of recognition.

The National Cooperative Movement in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation organized the “2nd Conference of Century Coops” from 21 to 23 November at the Island Cove Resort, Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite.

Highlights of the conference were the following: awarding of plaques of recognition to the Century Coops who have reached a Net Worth of One Hundred Million Pesos as of December 2002; a presentation of the different integrated financial systems; sharing of best practices and challenges/solutions among the participating Century Coops; and a briefing on the Philippine economy. Keynote Address was given by Prof. Dr. Willibald Folz, Former Chairman of the Bavarian Cooperative Federation of Germany.

ASEAN and EU: Developing Trade Prospects

Held on 20 November 2003, this forum was a joint Program of the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation (RPDEV), the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines, the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines, the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center and the Hanns Seidel Foundation. The event was sponsored in part by the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology.

The European IT Service Center in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation conducted a CEO Forum on the next steps for Philippine outsourcing services last 19 November 2003. The seminar was sponsored by the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology.


Re-engineering Livelihood in the 21st Century

The Office of the Presidential Adviser for Special Concerns, in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, and the National Cooperative Movement held a national conference entitled "Re-engineering Livelihood Development in the 21st Century" last 30 October 2003, at The Heritage Hotel, Manila.

The conference aimed to: 1) formulate an alternative framework for livelihood development towards an accelerated economic growth, social development and political empowerment particularly of the poor; 2) re-engineer the process of livelihood development that will ensure viability of start-up operations and sustainability of commercial operations including market expansion; and, 3) identify innovative areas of operational cooperation among government organizations, non-government organizations and private enterprises on a sustainable and institutional bases.

Soldiering for the Nation, In Service of the People

The Foundation for Communication Initiatives and the Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation (BSAF) recently conducted two fora with the theme: 'Soldiering for the Nation, In Service of the People'. The first was a public forum held at the Ateneo Professional Schools last 25 October 2003. Professor Felipe Miranda, Research Director of Pulse Asia was the lecturer. The second forum, held at the Citimotors Auditorium in Makati City on 27 October 2003, was an Executive Briefing and Workshop conducted exclusively for the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Department of National Defense (DND) Undersecretary Feliciano M. Gacis, Jr. was keynote speaker. Both fora were supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

Gathering of Former Scholars of German Foundations

The German Embassy recently organized the first gathering of former scholars of the different German Foundations in the Philippines. Participants included former scholars of Hanns Seidel Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the German Development Service (DED), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Capacity Building International, Germany (inWent) and The Goethe Institute. The event was held at the Hyatt Hotel last 11 October 2003.

The induction of officers of the Association of Hanns Seidel Foundation Trainers (AHSFT) of Region 10 was held last 4 September 2003 at the Mahogany Café in Cagayan de Oro City. The inducted officers include: Remedios Gadrinab (President), Esther Nacalaban (Vice President-Academe), Clara Marie Asuncion Gonzales (Vice President-Industry), Jacqueline Pamela Gaston (Secretary), Ernel Dablio (Treasurer), Ephraim Acenas (Auditor), Bong Dichosa (PRO), Marvin Unabia (Director for Special Projects), and Ginee Lu Aguinot, (Director for Membership).


Trainer's Training Program

The Dualtech Training Center Foundation Inc. (DTCFI) conducted a seminar last 23-25 July 2003, co-sponsored by the Hanns Seidel Foundation. Themes covered included designing a training course and development of training objectives, training needs analysis, and training methods and techniques.

The Memorandum of Agreement for the Tarlac Training Center Project was signed on July 2003. The project is co-financed by the European Commission (EC). The Hanns Seidel Foundation is the lead partner, Fundacion Codespa the second lead partner, and the Jose and Demetria Cojuangco Foundation, Inc (JDCFI) the local partner.


ICBM-GRRAM 3

This is the third of a series of lectures under the Philippine Countryside Program entitled Integrative Coopreneurial Business Management - Grassroots Responsive Resource Assessment and Mobilization (ICBM-GRRAM). The seminar, held in Labrador, Pangasinan, last 25-28 June 2003, was conducted by the Benigno S. Aquino Foundation - Institute for People Power and Development (BSAF-IPPD) in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation.


Trainer's Training Seminar

Trainer's Training on Corporate Governance and Risk Management.

The Negros Oriental Development Center in cooperation with the Association of Concerned Trainers in Oriental Negros (ACTION), held a seminar, co-sponsored by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, entitled Trainer's Training on Corporate Governance and Risk Management. The seminar was held last 13-15 June 2003 in Dumaguete City with 32 attendees.

The officers of the Association of Hanns Seidel Foundation Scholars of the Philippines, Inc. (AHSFSPI), donated clothes and canned goods to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last 10 February 2003. The donation was a gesture of goodwill to mark a possible fututre cooperation between the two organizations. Present during the ceremony were AHSFSPI officers Mr. Rene Luis Mata (President), Mr. Honorio Grupo (Honorary President), Mr. Rene Roberto Garcia (Treasurer), Mr. Francis Xavier Vicente (Secretary), DSWD Undersecretary Mr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip andAssistant Secretary Ms. Cheche Cabrera.
