Improving Agricultural Microfinance: Barriers to the supply of agricultural lending in the Philippines

In support of the objectives of the Microfinance Capacity Building Program, a joint undertaking of the PinoyME Foundation, Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation (BSAF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF), a research study titled  “Improving Agricultural Microfinance:  Barriers to the supply of agricultural lending in the Philippines” was conducted in cooperation with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), an international non-profit research institution, and the Microfinance Council of the Philippines (MCPI). Forum on Environmental Justice EnvJustForum

Spearheaded by the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the two-day forum on Environmental Justice with the theme Upholding a Balanced and Healthful Ecology was held successfully last 16-17 April 2009 at three different venues in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, which was organized simultaneously through video-conferencing. The main venue in Baguio City was hosted by the University of the Cordilleras for the participants coming from Luzon while those from the Visayas and Mindanao were converged at the University of the Visayas in Iloilo City and the Ateneo de Davao University in Davao City, respectively. It brought together more than 500 participants from various sectors all over the country, including judges appointed to the 117 designated environmental courts. Read more...

Community-based Dialogue Sessions on Human Rights Promotion and Protection: Project Assessment and Planning

Following the completion of the first phase of the project titled “Community-based Dialogue Sessions on Human Rights between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, and Civil Society Organizations and Local Communities”, a project Assessment and Planning session was conducted on 14 April 2009 in Manila among the project partners, namely, the Alternative Law Groups (ALG), Beningo S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation (BSAF), the Philippine National Police (PNP) Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Human Rights Office (HRO) and Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations/J7, and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF). From 28 March to 01 April 2009, Dr. Peter Witterauf, General Manager of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) in Munich, Germany paid an official visit to the Philippines. Dr. Witterauf, who assumed the post of General Manager in March 2004, was pleased to have taken this trip to the country which ended in a high note. Read more...

Nachkontakttreffen 2009 Nachkontakt Thumbnail

Harmony and cooperation reverberated in the air during the Nachkontakttreffen 2009 organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) last 20 March 2009 during which over one hundred twenty Filipinos who were former scholars to Germany were brought together in the City of Taguig. Graced by His Excellency Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch (Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany), the event reinforced HSF’s role as the catalyst in the effort of forming a federation of alumni groups of former scholars to Germany in the Philippines. AHSFSPI Nachkontaktkonferenz 2009 Nachkontakt Thumbnail

Networking gained an added dimension during the AHSFSPI Nachkontaktkonferenz 2009 (AHSFSPI Follow-up Contact Conference 2009) held last 19 to 22 March 2009 in Makati City. Organised by the Hanns Seidel Foundation/ Germany (HSF) in cooperation with the Association of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Scholars of the Philippines, Incorporated (AHSFSPI), the three-day event was graced by the presence of Dr. Michael Czepalla, the Head of Scholarship for Foreign Scientists and Postgraduates, Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, e.V. and Mr. Paul G. Schäfer, the Resident Representative of HSF to the Philippines, and served to bring the members of the AHSFSPI, along with the those of six other alumni groups of former scholars to Germany in the Philippines together. Municipalities of Bohol Honed on Strategic Management sm_bohol

In recognition of the important role of the municipalities in nation building, the Mayor’s Development Center (MDC) and the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP), with the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF), conducted a five-day learning event on strategic management entitled Managing Performance of Municipal Governments: Province of Bohol”.  In attendance were 55 participants from 11 municipalities of the province of Bohol, namely: Sikatuna, Batuan, San Miguel, Carmen, Pres. C.P. Garcia, Alicia, Guindulman, Cortez, Buenavista, San Isidro and Getafe. The learning event was held last March 17-21, 2009 in Cebu City. Read more...

EITSCFI’s 2nd Offsite Training Hub Inaugurated Thumb

The Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF), European IT (Information Technology) Service Center Foundation, Inc. (EITSCFI) and the Rizal Technological University (RTU) inaugurated the 2nd offsite EITSCFI Computer Laboratory last February 27, 2009.  The setting up of the computer laboratory was realized through a cooperation among RTU, EITSCFI, HSF and co-funded by the European Commission (EC) project entitled “Establishment of Market-driven and Technology-based Courses and Further Training for the Information Technology Sector in the National Capital Region, Philippines.” Read more...

PNP-HSF Signing of Memorandum of Understanding pnp-hsf thumb

In line with the commitment towards the promotion and protection of human rights in the country, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) was signed last 26 February 2009. The signatories of the MOU were the respective representatives of these two institutions and the Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights, Honorable Leila de Lima.  Held at PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, the event signified the continuing partnership in the area of Human Rights Training and Education, and related research and publication activities.
