Community-based Dialogue Sessions on Human Rights Conducted for Region 3

After a brief lull during the election campaign period, the ninth leg of a series of regional “Community-based Dialogue Sessions on Human Rights between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police, and Civil Society Organizations and Local Communities” was held on 20-21 July 2010 at the Aquino Convention Center in Tarlac City.  This project, which started in 2008, is a partnership among the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Human Rights Office (HRO) and Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations (J7), Philippine National Police (PNP) Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO), Alternative Law Groups (ALG), Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), and the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF). PNP Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa addresses the PNP Human Rights Desk Officers

Stressing the need “to build a culture of human rights in the Philippine National Police (PNP)”, Police Director General Jesus Verzosa graced the Opening Ceremony of the Forum-Workshop for Human Rights Desk Officers held last 15 July 2010 at Eurotel in Quezon City organized by the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF).  He thanked the HSF for being a reliable partner in human rights promotion and spoke about the crucial role of human rights desk officers in the transformation of the PNP. Federation of Alumni Groups of Former Scholars to Germany Founded

The representatives of the Federation of Alu­mni Groups of Former Scholars to Germany in the Philippines’ (Federation) member alumni groups were formally named “founders of the Federation” during the Fifth Core Group Meeting, “Organisational Meeting for the Federation of Alumni Groups of Former Scholars to Germany in the Philippines” organised and hosted by the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) in Makati City last 12 July 2010.  These “founders” comprise mainly of two representatives from each of the Federation’s eight member alumni groups. Bicol University spearheads competency-based education on microfinance

True to her reputation as a leader with a strong drive for excellence and continued innovation, Dr. Fay Lea Patria Lauraya, President of Bicol University, successfully led the pioneering implementation of the Dual Training System Competency-Based Education for Microfinance (DTS CBE).  Now the university has 100 students (50 in the 1st year and 50 in the 2nd year of the four-year degree program) taking up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) major in Microfinance, a pioneering approach to education where the curriculum is designed based on competency requirements of the microfinance industry. Forum-Workshop for Human Rights Desk Officers

The first of a series of Forum-Workshops for Human Rights Desk Officers was successfully conducted last July 8-9, 2010 held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Training Service Building at Camp Crame, Quezon City. Organized by the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO), the 2-day activity was attended by the first batch of 47 Human Rights Desk Officers (HRDOs) from the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO), National Operational Support Units (NOSUs), and relevant offices of the National Headquarters (NHQ). Citizens’ Movement Mobilized

Following the successful outcome of the first nationwide automated elections in the country and the resurgence of “people power” as manifested in the overwhelming mandate received by His Excellency President Benigno S. Training of Teachers and Trainers Program with EITSCFI in Partnership with UMak, RTU and UP-SITF

As part of its Training of Teachers and Trainers Program with the European IT Service Center Foundation, Incorporated (EITSCFI), the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) has, together with the EITSCFI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with each of the EITSCFI’s partner academic institutions, the University of Makati (UMak), the Rizal Technological University (RTU) and the University of the Philippines–System Information Technology Foundation (UP-SITF) for the conduct of training activities for public school teachers and trainers in 2010. Executing Mainstreaming Micro

The goal of mainstreaming microentrepreneurship as the country’s poverty alleviation strategy continues to gain momentum.  On May 25, 2010, PinoyME held a research consortium meeting as a sequel to the Mainstreaming Micro conference to follow-through the agreements made during the workshop.  This marks an important step of executing the strategic policy and research agenda to scale up microentrepreneurship in the country. Training Regulations for Microfinance Technology approved by TESDA

In pursuit of its goal of developing human resources for the microfinance industry in the Philippines, the PinoyME Foundation, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF), initiated a series of training/workshops that led to the completion of Training Regulations (TR) for Microfinance Technology.  The TR underwent a series of technical reviews during the 40th and 42nd Consultation Meetings of the Standards-Setting and Systems Development (SSSD), the TESDA Board and TESDA Secretariat on May 11, 2009 and December 21, 2009, respectively. Read more..

CHR links up with PNP to ensure protection of people’s right to vote

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has linked up with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure the promotion and protection of the people’s right to suffrage during the May 10 elections.

 

During the signing of a Memorandum of Undertaking (MOU) today by the Chief, PNP, Police Director General Jesus A. Verzosa and CHR Chairperson Leila M. de Lima, the two leaders vowed that the will of the voting Filipinos should be exercised freely, safely and intelligently whether inside or outside of voting precincts. And this includes ensuring the people’s enjoyment of their right to suffrage without fear or harassment. Read more..
